La composizione è ispirata alla “danza del fuoco” (Nestinarstvo in lingua bulgara).
La danza del fuoco è una delle più antiche usanze bulgare e, secondo alcuni ricercatori, le radici di questa provengono dai Traci e dal loro culto per il Sole.
È un gioco rituale sui carboni ardenti e un sacramento religioso. Con il ritmo di tamburi e cornamuse i danzatori del fuoco ballano a piedi nudi sui carboni mentre le braci ardenti zampillano illuminando i loro movimenti. Tutti sono posseduti dalla magia trascinante della danza misteriosa.
Nel 2009 il rituale è stato incluso nella lista UNESCO del patrimonio culturale immateriale.
Il pezzo, che vuole essere anche un omaggio a Bartók, utilizza dei modelli ritmici caratteristici del folklore bulgaro, presenti nelle “six dances in Bulgarian Rhythm” nel quinto volume dei Mikrokozmosz di Béla Bartók.
La composizione è dedicata alla pianista Adele D’Aronzo.
The composition is inspired by the "fire dance" (Nestinarstvo in Bulgarian).
The fire dance is one of the oldest Bulgarian customs and, according to some researchers, the dance’s roots come from the Thracians and from their worship for the Sun.
It’s a ritual game on hot coals and a religious sacrament. With the rhythm of drums and bagpipes the fire dancers dance barefoot on burning coals, while the burning embers gush out illuminating their movements. Everyone is possessed by the enthralling magic of the mysterious dance.
In 2009 the ritual was included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
The piece, which also wants to be a tribute to Bartók, uses rhythmic patterns characteristic of Bulgarian folklore, present in the "six dances in Bulgarian Rhythm" in the fifth volume of Béla Bartók’s Mikrokozmosz.
The composition is dedicated to pianist Adele D'Aronzo.
